Construction timber (carcassing)

Carcassing with CE marking is manufactured in accordance with the requirements of EN 14081-1. It is strength graded by visual criteria in accordance with BS 4978 or by machine strength graded according in accordance with the requirements of EN 14081-2 and EN 14081-3. Construction timber is impregnated in accordance with the requirements of EN 15228, EN 335 and EN 351-1 with penetration class NP1 to NP5 and use class UC2 to UC4.

Conifers growing in Latvia perfectly balance high mechanical properties with low density; therefore, they are ideal for the production of environmentally friendly, healthy and sustainable building materials.

In our production process, the timber is dried to transport moisture, sorted by strength, planed / calibrated to the exact size of the final product and, if necessary, impregnated with a solution which is safe for people and nature.

Structural finger jointed timber

The structural finger jointed timber in the product range of Kurekss Ltd. is manufactured using the high-quality one-component polyurethane adhesive, which is certified for the production of construction timber. We produce both general-purpose and  CE-marked structural finger jointed construction timber in accordance with the EN 15497 standard. Double vacuum treatment is also possible, providing UC2 use class protection.

During the production process, visually unappealing and mechanical properties reducing wood defects are cut out, as a result of which the highest-quality timber with excellent form stability is obtained; this is ensured by the equalisation of tensions among the sections.

To ensure high product quality, the sawn timber is first carefully dried to the required moisture content, during sorting select high-quality materials are chosen, from which unwanted wood defects are eliminated; finger joint teeth are cut and joined together using polyurethane adhesive. This adhesive does not emit harmful substances, does not lose its properties in either cold or moisture and is developed for the production of structural timber. The joined material is planed/calibrated. Double vacuum treatment comprises surface impregnation that protects wood against wood deteriorating fungi, bacteria and bugs; during the treatment the solution enters only the top layer of the timber so that the wood moisture does not increase significantly, and it is ready for immediate use. This type of treatment is suitable for elements that are not directly exposed to the weather and do not come into direct contact with water.

V and better sawn timber graded according to the Nordic Timber Grading Rules. Small sound knots, small dead and loose ones, and shallow surface fissures are permitted. Wane, rot, insect damage, large bark pockets and blue stain exceeding 5% of the timber’s surface are not permitted.

SF (ABC) :

VI and better sawn timber graded according to the Nordic Timber Grading Rules. Sound knots are not restricted, small dead and loose knots, surface fissures and fissures going through the thickness at the ends of the timber up to the width of the board in length are allowed, ingrown bark and scarring is limited to 300mm in length and log blue stain limited to 15% of the surface of timber. Rot and insect damage are not permitted.

C (VI) :

VI sawn timber graded according to the Nordic Timber Grading Rules. Unlike SF (ABC), this grade does not include timber with AB (V and better) quality.

SH (SCHAAL) :

SCHAALBOARD sawn timber graded according to the Nordic Timber Grading Rules. This is a special side board grade that allow wane on up to 75% of any surface, unrestricted in length. Other quality requirements are the same as for class C (VI).

D (VII) :

VII sawn timber graded according to the Nordic Timber Grading Rules. The entire length of the timber must be touched by the saw on all sides, the timber must hold together to its full length. Wood defects are not restricted. There is no material in the class that meets the requirements of C (VI).

Laths

The standard product range of Kurekss Ltd. includes high-quality roof battens and laths. Sawn timber suitable for manufacturing the product is initially dried to transport moisture, sorted according to general visual criteria or the requirements of the British standard BS 5534, calibrated to the exact size of the final product, and, if necessary, impregnated to ensure a longer service life. Pressure impregnation, as well as double vacuum treatment are possible.
